For Super Bowl, Budweiser addresses immigration

Each year the Super Bowl ad offers a snapshot of what's happening in the culture.


But the announcement of this year's Budweiser published Tuesday with a trip to the United States an immigrant become suddenly more topical probably expected sysop Anheuser-Busch, released days later President Donald Trump executive order Friday temporarily prohibiting refugees and almost all citizens of the seven countries the majority of Muslims.

"Don't stop when you sleep, try the beer we drink," read the copy.

Ricardo Marqués, Vice President of Budweiser, in a statement which said that the company had been working on the announcement from May.

"The history of the powerful is the fact that it is human history and resonant human sleep," he said. "It certainly would make sense to think on the current context does not put extra eyeballs (announcement), but it's really not intended and not put special like that."

He added that the Budweiser beer brand as intrinsically bipartisan.

"In the Super Bowl on Sunday, we want to meet people in bars across the nation – which is what we are."

Even so, it's hard to ignore the connection, says Jeanine Poggi, media reporter for the trade publication Advertising Age.

"They look at the Super Bowl, perhaps one of the most talked about advertising given the debate over the rights of refugees, regardless of Budweiser trying never to respond to this type of political climate," he said.


The Super Bowl in Houston, NRG Stadium between the New England Patriots and Atlanta Falcons airs Sunday on Fox.
